Gold & Rust: Unlikely Friends
Nancy Lorenz and Pamela Talese

Nancy grew up in Japan where she absorbed a very different eastern aesthetic. When she went to college and traveled to Europe, she was able to put together the eastern ideas of materials, balance, texture and nature with western art practice she was seeing in medieval and renaissance churches, creating an authentic style that was all her own. Pamela is the daughter of Nan Talese, one of publishings most famous editors and author Gay Talese. She grew up in NYC surrounded by books and intellectual conversation, and she turned to painting to create her own language. She tells her story of growing up in New York and watching it change; her work is an investigation into how we observe and honor the world around us. Both artists incorporate their personal stories into their artist identity— and use those experiences to tell a wider story.
